Inspiration for the design comes from a desire to explore the potential of using two simple and graphic planes in juxtaposition, and to consider how these slightly different forms can relate to each other. The ergonomics are determined by a flexible connection between the seat and the back which allows the back rest to move with the weight of the user.
The design is deliberately expressive, but also very simple and references in a gentle way mid-century typologies via the frame structure, and allows for a combination of materials which have always appealed – the forgiving nature of wood and the strictness of steel. The result is a chair which has unmistakable contemporary character an at the same time, a reassuring context.
COCO collection is one of the collection Gabbertas Studio designed for OASIQ. There is a concision to the thinking behind all these designs that manages to combine the studio’s characteristic search for simplicity with a desire to imbue individuality and personality to each collection. It is interesting to note how they relates through an integrated and complimentary design language that contributes to the overall OASIQ brand philosophy.
